Scout Mountain 100 Training Log Week 7/20

Week 7!? How have 7 weeks already flown by? In an effort to save everyone from the boredom that these training logs are, I am going to start them with the weekly reflection other than ending them that way. I know reading is a lot of work and people mostly watch you-tube videos these days, especially young people. I heard that substack is all the rage but I refuse to use it since I have been working on this blog platform for YEARS, not to mention I pay to host my own domain and so I have written so much content that I need to buy online storage for it.  I will admit I do subscribe to most other friends’ blogs on substack. I guess I was blogging before it became kind of cool again. It is possible I just know a bunch of other nerds.

Weekly reflection: This week I spent tapering and running the Run to the Pub Half Marathon. I really didn’t want to taper but I felt like I needed it. Turns out, it paid off, I got a massive PR on race day, in not just the half-marathon distance but every distance between that and a 5k. My previous unofficial 5k PR was running almost completely downhill on the side of a mountain. I’ve never ran an official 5k. Apparently serious runners only count official race results as PR’s but since I haven’t ran every distance in the book yet, and I’m no pro, I’m referring to my strava PRs. Anyways, what a fantastic week.

Weekly Totals: 27.39 miles and 1,722 feet of vert

Monday
Rest Day!

Tuesday
Short Speed Workout: 3 x 4 min fast and 1 min recovery: 5.25 miles
Lift: I skipped it!
Notes: Workout felt so good and perfect, short, easy, and fun. Great for race week.

Wednesday
Easy Run with Megan and Bryce: 5.52 miles and 571 feet of vert
Notes: Fun with friends, they set a good pace

Thursday
Extra rest day!
Notes: I really leaned into the taper this week … I was on the craziest work streak I’ve done in years … this was day 14 in a row of work for me

Friday
Shake Out Run with 4 x 20 second strides and 1 minute fast: 3.45 miles
Notes: I felt like a slug but I had fun running one minute fast up the hill in Lindley Park that leads to Pete’s. I have also discovered that the cemetery is a great place to do all my strides.

Saturday
Race! Run to the Pub Half Marathon: 13.1 miles and 574 feet of vert
Notes: SO FAST, BIG PR!!!! I will write a short race report, I promise. I pushed so hard during it. Megan and I ran together the whole time until Wilson Avenue. She is the best pacer and running buddy for me. We both said we would not have ran as well if we didn’t run together.

Sunday
Rest Day
Notes: 3 days of rest in a week! Crazy for me. My legs hurt so bad from yesterday still, taking it easy. Walking twig helps. Today is my first day off of work in 16 days!

Photo from a walk with Twig. Cool cloud inversion! Saving the race photos for the race report.
