Scout Mountain 100 Training Log Week 9/20

Twig always makes a bad day so much better.
First Baldy lap of the season with Mira

Weekly Reflection:
This was the second week of my first build for Scout. I went back to lifting at the gym and it made me feel ridiculously sore. Somehow I managed to run 65 miles and 14,650 feet of vert this week and it didn’t feel bad at all! Most of my runs were really fun runs with other people and I think that made the week fly by. This is a super short weekly reflection because I don’t have much to say other than it was a great week!

Weekly Totals: 65.21 miles and 14,649 feet of vert

Monday: 10.01 miles and 1,007 feet of vert
Notes: 30 minute warm up, 30 minute threshold, 5 minute cool down, 6 x 1 minute hard uphills, cool down. I did this workout on town trails and the threshold on the 5k loop at painted hills. Arrowleaf hills. The threshold felt long and hard and then the 6×1 minute hills felt very hard. I did this run after my lift and I could tell a big difference in how my legs felt. I almost never lift before I run but I did today because I was being a baby about the cold.

Tuesday: 6 miles
Notes: A painfully slow easy town run with Megan. It was quite literally so painful because I was so sore from lifting it hurt! Mostly my upper body more than my legs but I was just generally so stiff. She was the same way. We stopped to stretch out halfway through.

Wednesday: 6.88 miles and 1,818 feet of vert
Notes: Easy Foothills run with Twig and Megan.. Finished it with 5 x 30 second strides on the bike path.

3×4 barbell pushpress @65lbs
Accessory 1

3×8/side top down alternating DB bench press
Accessory 2

Thursday: 3.55 miles and 1,171 feet of vert
Notes: Easy run with Jo and Twig on the Foothills trail. Absolutely stunning day with fresh snow on the ground but dry trails.

Friday: 20.43 miles and 4,656 feet of vert
Notes: Lewis and Clark day with Lisa and Sophie. So much Fun!

Saturday: 8 miles and 1,421 feet of vert
Notes: I felt like hell today. I didn’t sleep last night, I started my period, and my legs just aches from both the long run and my menstrual cycle. I kept this super easy at Corbly gulch for the first time with Twig. I focused on keeping my HR below 150. The trail was super nice and Twig makes everything better. She was rewarded with her first pup cup. Idk if I will give her one again because I think it upset her stomach based on how stinky her farts were right after. Sorry Twig!

Sunday: 10.3 miles and 4,364 feet of vert
Notes: Baldy lap with Mira. It was supposed to be my rest day but Mira messaged our “Women in Ultra-running” group chat for company and I could not resist. I’ve been thinking about doing Baldy for too long and I needed to get the first one out of the way for the season. It felt great and we went down via the foothills trail which was very preferable.

Twig pretty pooped after the foothills with Megan and I.

Twig after her first and maybe last pup cup.
