Day 100: Girl Scouts

Day 100

Unionville, NY to Waywayanda Shelter

Miles Hiked: 16.8

AT Milage: 1363.7

This morning I woke up around 7am. I slept pretty well last night. I think it was due to having a pillow since I got my sleeping bag back. I bought a chocolate milk and some food for the trail at the general store before getting on trail at 8am. I was really lazy about hiking today. I took a break every two miles and hiked 2mph. I don’t know what it was but I was not in the mood to move fast. The trail went through Wakill River National Wildlife Refuge. It was pretty flat minus a few rocky climbs. There were a ton off wetlands and I could hear the frogs ccroaking like crazy. I hiked in my sandals for a little over 8 miles so my socks and shoes could dry.

I took so many breaks and I almost fell asleep on one. At one point, I got to walk on an awesome boardwalk for about a mile. It was great. When I passed a road I saw a sign for an ice cream place called Heaven Hill so I stopped in and got some. It was a good treat on a hot day. People kept trying to talk me into going to camp at a drive in movie theater in town. I really didn’t want to get dragged into town again so I was adamant about not going. I wanted to wake up on the trail and get good miles done in morning. I always have a better day when I wake up early on the trail.

I stopped early at a shelter. I was the only thru hiker there. There was also a troop of girl scouts consisting of two scouts and two leaders. It was fun to hang out with them and they even made me dinner! It was so nice and I was so happy I stopped for a quiet and fun evening on the trail instead of a late night at the movies in town.

The mosquitos have gotten really bad on the trail lately. I usually get bit way less often than my friends or family do in the same location, but the bugs are attacking me now! I used to just swat them away so they didn’t bother me, but now I am swatting at them to kill!

Happy Trails!
