Scout Mountain 100 Training Log Week 11/20

Reflection: I tapered for my 50k at the end of the week and I wasn’t happy about it because I didn’t want to do the taper. To be honest I think I was feeling a little depressed from the lack of physical activity. The 10 x 1 minute workout was super fun and I’m looking forward to doing it again. I think I would also like to regularly do M laps on Monday mornings if I don’t do a speed or hill workout. The rest of the week was really meh. Race day started not fun but then got a lot better! I could tell that all the road work I have been doing paid off big time for this 50k. I PRed by over 30 minutes and was really happy about it. I am going to publish a separate race report with more details.

Weekly Totals: 50.6 miles and 8,838 feet of vert

Monday 4/6: 2 M laps with Twig plus 2 miles of bridger canyon road with 4 x 30 second strides
Notes: Twigs first time doing two M laps with me. She was pooped! We need to be doing multiple M laps together more often. I think I would like my Mondays to be M laps. I ran the cooldown with strides on the paved path by myself after.

Tuesday 4/7: 10 x 1 minute fast 1 minute recovery
Notes: Very intentional warm up and cool down. I programmed this workout into my watch and it was awesome. I did all my intervals on the concrete circle at story mill park and it was so fun. I seriously enjoyed this workout. I tried to make my last split the fastest and was successful. I did all of the intervals at a 6-6:30 mile per minute pace. It would be awesome to do this workout in the future and get all the intervals closer to the 6 min/ mile pace consistently.

Wednesday 4/8: M Lap plus some with Lauren
Notes: We got sucked into social hour with some other runner ladies but it was really fun! Because of that this run ended up being way easier than I was intending but it was supposed to be easy anyways!

Thursday 4/9: Rest day driving down to Utah to see Carly!

Friday 4/10: 40 minute shake out run
Notes: Did this on the trails behind Carly’s house. I didn’t feel amazing doing this mostly just really slow like a slug from the extra rest this week maybe. It was really bothering me that I took a de-load week and then tapered for this race tomorrow. I really don’t care about the race tomorrow and I don’t think I have ever felt that way about a race.

Saturday 4/11: Serengeti 50k
Notes: The plan for this race was to take it easy like a training run and then I would be allowed to run really fast the last five miles if I was feeling good. I stuck to the plan. I was so grumpy for the first 10 miles and then I focused on having a better attitude and just trying to run every step that I could even if it was slow. I was able to run the last five miles really fast for myself and felt so proud of it. A dramatic improvement from the past 50ks. I won the race for the ladies and it was really fun in the end!

Sunday: Rest and recovery day 🙂

I took zero photos from training this week besides the race! I will post those with the race report. Here is a picture of Twig and I recovering on a short hike/ drive the day after the race!
