Day 163: A Zero at Human Nature Hostel

Day 163

September 24th

Miles Hiked: Zero

AT Milage: 1935.1

Today I woke up in town with little sleep. I got Breakfast at the Diner with Doc before packing up my tent and waiting for the hostel to come pick me up at the general store. Around 9:30am a hostel worker named “Other Brother” came to pick me up and bring me to the Geodesick Dome built specifically for thru hikers in the middle of the woods.

At Human Nature Hostel, I spent the day finishing up the last season of the Office, catching up on my blog, and talking to family and friends. It was one of the most relaxing zeros I’ve ever had. The hostel was beautifully built and had very unique features to it such as 14 bunk beds named after each state on the AT and a funny version of trading cards made with thru hikers pictures and traits.

The dogs staying at the hostel were so nice and I was very happy to give them hugs! This is the best hostel I’ve been to on the trail so far. I took the North Carolina bunk bed because it was one of my favorite states but the PA bed made me shiver. I’m confident that it is the least popular bed of them all. For dinner I bought what the hostel was making for the night which was pizza with watermelon and pasta salad. I was glad I opted in, it was one of the best meals I’ve had on the trail. I slept from 9pm to 7am the next morning. What a great recovery.

Happy Trails!
