Part 8: The Final Sip

“Drink your deepest now for the richest stuff settles in the final sip” – Poet .

These were the words I was sent off into the 100 mile wilderness with at the end of the Appalachian Trail in 2019. I have remembered this quote ever since and I think about it every time I am about to finish up a long trail. For me the PCT was about more than finishing a single trail. It was the cumulation of a goal I had been chasing since 2018 when I planned my very first thru hike. Excluding fire miles, The PCT was the final trail in completing my triple crown of American Long Distance Thru Hiking, something I am proud to have accomplished before the age of 25. This final week on trail was very special to me and I’m grateful to have spent it with the two girls I had hiked half the PCT with, aka two of the best hiking partners I’ve ever had. As you will read, the PCT ended abruptly with a wildfire, what seemed to be a common theme throughout my hike in 2022. I won’t spoil the end.
